EXPO Weekend!

 
Mookie and I on our way to the 2011 Sew Expo in Puyallup.  Gotta love car photos.  We switched things up this year and headed for IKEA first thing.  We picked up Mookies new dresser, a night stand, and lots of kitchen gadgets.  Love their little coffee frother! 

 Met up with my bud Barbi (didn't take a single photo(darn it) so gleemed this one from her blog..isn't she cute in her new snuggy).  Anyhoo, we met up at IKEA and went to luuch, then spent the rest of the day catching up, shopping, thrifting, and drinking starbucks!  What a great time.  Mookie and I were so tired by the end of the night.

 
Next morning we are all set, tiara's on, glitter bags ready, and money in our pockets.  First stop at the Expo was to check in with Annette, let her know the dress is here and we are ready for the fashion show on sunday.  Spend the rest of the morning hours shopping the booths and talking to vendors.  Lots of touching fabric, wooing and ahhhing over bling and creative juices flowing.  So many projects...so little time.  In the afternoon, we headed for the mall for some real shopping.  remember, we live on an Island so our options of fashionalbe duds is limited.  We were not disappointed.

 Saturday night, we headed out to Pacific Fabrics fabulous after hours party to shop and meet Suede from season 5 of Project Runway.  He was so sweet and talked with Mookie about getting into the fashion field, gave her suggestions of classes and experience that will be helpful to her in the future.  Mookie bought one of his new patterns for her next project and plans to enter it in the Simplicity Contest.

 
Here is the pattern Mookie bought...he even signed it for her.  It's a cute little wrap dress.  Mookie went with some animal print and metallic fabric for the dress.  I'll share pics when she gets it done.

   
Some of our goodies we picked up for projects this year.  Lots of bling and trims to embellish.  Not as much fabric as we have picked up in the past, but all are going to be made up quickly this year.  Some of my favorites were the pin-up guys mookie found to make a pillowcase, and the lacey canvas we found to make anothe tote bag.

Expo Countdown

 
I have been sewing fast and furious to complete our Sewing Expo gear.  This year we decided on cute tote bags.  Gone are the days that we go all matchy matchy.  We found this awesome fabric at Fabric.com that we both loved.  Mookie's bag(top) is a pattern from the book "One Yard Wonders"(totally fabulous book, great patterns, etc...more on that later).  Mine is a laptop tote I just kind of pieced together.  No pattern.  They both turned out great.

 Front of Mookie's bag.  We actually used a combination of three different prints.  Colored pinup, eifel tower, and crowns(lining).  The top front and back band is the eifel tower print with cut outs from the colored pinup added.  Actually, I was short on fabric and cut the top band upside down(oops), so I added the cut outs to hide my boo boo.

 Close up of my bag.  Added some bling, see the crown on her head!!!  Used the same three prints for my bag as well.  Plus added a quilted fabric on the inside as the lining so it would be more stable.

What to do with all those scraps!!

Well, I made up a necklace with fabric flowers for mookie to wear to the show.  Left over crown scraps and some of the knit left from her dress.

 
I made up the flowers, hot glued them to felt backing, punched two holes throw felt to add jump rings, and added the suede ties.  Easy peasy, and so cute!

Sew Expo Weekend

 

Here we are last year!
Whoo Hoo...just a few more days and Mookie and I are off on our annual Sew Expo Weekend.  This year with the added bonus that Mookie is participating in the show.  Yah Mookie!  Several months ago Mookie was asked by Annette at Pacific Fabric to work on a project for the Coats and Clark charity fashion show.  Well we all got together, decided on a pattern, picked up fabric and Mookie got to work.  Which has not been easy with her busy teenage schedule.  Thank heaven for snow days...Mookie finished up this week and the dresss looks so awesome on her.

Finito!!  Still need to finish the hem but it looks so AWESOME on her!  Sew Expo here we come!

Snow Days!

 
We have just had two wonderful snow days.  This doesn't happen very often for us so when the snow hits, everything shuts down.  With the kids home, we have been enjoying marathon movie nights, I dream of Jeanie, Leave it to Beaver, and crafting. 

Mookie has made wonderful progress on her dress for the Sew Expo Fashion show(pic on my other camera, so I'll get them up later).  We are also working on pillowcases for the Million Cases project and making new paris inspired tote bags to carry all our goodies at the show.  Only a week away....we are sooo excited!!

Show and Tell

 
I Love, love the 70's print sheets, pillowcases, and clothing. They remind me of the 'Brady Bunch', hanging clothes on the line on a hot summer day, and the fabulous colors & patterns make me smile.  Yesterday, I came upon these wonderful dinner napkins.  Like 16 of them!   WAAAAAA!  I couldn't resist.

Made from double knit, this beauty is so versatile and warm.  She used Indygo Junction pattern number IJ838.  We bought the fabric and pattern last year at the Sew Expo and Mookie put it together for her Fashion Merchandising class project.  Good job Mookie!

This Weeks Reads

 

I am on another library binge.  These are my selections that came in this week.  Love, love "blogging for Bliss"...gave me some great ideas for my blog.  "Manolo's New Shoe's"  beautifully inspiring if you love shoes like Mookie and I do.  Movie, COCO..how can you go wrong with anything from this style icon.  The others were great to look at but no new project ideas for me.
