Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!  Poor Mookie is home sick.  I just put the finishing touches on my Holiday decorating for today.  Decorated the house and dining room and finished everyones valentine goodies bags.  Can't wait for family to get home tonight for dinner.  I have amazing lasagne, garlic bread, and salad planned along with a six layer red velvet cake to finish up the evening.  YUM YUM!  Here are some pics of the decor:

On Sunday we went out to Deception Pass Park to hunt for Heart Rocks,  we only found one.  However we did get lots of great pictures and taught Alison how to skip rocks.

Decorating Project

While walking through the dollar store the other day, I came upon these wonderful treat bags.  Then it hit me...project time.

Here are the supplies:

 Treat bag(of your choice of design), candles(mine are battery op), tape and scissors.

 
Step1:  cut bottom of bag off and make a cut down the center back of bag

Step2:  wrap bag around candle(cut off any extra overlap) and tape together.

Step3:  Cut top edge even with top of candle

 All done.  How easy was that?  Aren't they awesome!!  I love them.  You could also wrap votives or clear vases for a great table centerpiece.  Yah! my fall decorating is underway.

 

Also whipped up a batch of gluten free zuchini bread.  One loaf is already gone.  YUM!!

EXPO Weekend!

 
Mookie and I on our way to the 2011 Sew Expo in Puyallup.  Gotta love car photos.  We switched things up this year and headed for IKEA first thing.  We picked up Mookies new dresser, a night stand, and lots of kitchen gadgets.  Love their little coffee frother! 

 Met up with my bud Barbi (didn't take a single photo(darn it) so gleemed this one from her blog..isn't she cute in her new snuggy).  Anyhoo, we met up at IKEA and went to luuch, then spent the rest of the day catching up, shopping, thrifting, and drinking starbucks!  What a great time.  Mookie and I were so tired by the end of the night.

 
Next morning we are all set, tiara's on, glitter bags ready, and money in our pockets.  First stop at the Expo was to check in with Annette, let her know the dress is here and we are ready for the fashion show on sunday.  Spend the rest of the morning hours shopping the booths and talking to vendors.  Lots of touching fabric, wooing and ahhhing over bling and creative juices flowing.  So many projects...so little time.  In the afternoon, we headed for the mall for some real shopping.  remember, we live on an Island so our options of fashionalbe duds is limited.  We were not disappointed.

 Saturday night, we headed out to Pacific Fabrics fabulous after hours party to shop and meet Suede from season 5 of Project Runway.  He was so sweet and talked with Mookie about getting into the fashion field, gave her suggestions of classes and experience that will be helpful to her in the future.  Mookie bought one of his new patterns for her next project and plans to enter it in the Simplicity Contest.

 
Here is the pattern Mookie bought...he even signed it for her.  It's a cute little wrap dress.  Mookie went with some animal print and metallic fabric for the dress.  I'll share pics when she gets it done.

   
Some of our goodies we picked up for projects this year.  Lots of bling and trims to embellish.  Not as much fabric as we have picked up in the past, but all are going to be made up quickly this year.  Some of my favorites were the pin-up guys mookie found to make a pillowcase, and the lacey canvas we found to make anothe tote bag. 

More later on the the big fashion show...off to the vet with Lily.

In all the whoha about the Sew Expo, I almost forgot to post these.  This week I picked up three books.  One-Yard Wonders...love, love, love it and will probably buy this one and add it to my sewing referance library.  So many great patterns, well written instructions, and easy to use.  I made and apron, Mookie's bag that I posted yesturday, another cute shoulder bag and a colapsable shopping tote.  Fun for the beginner sewer as well as experienced.  Great ideas for adults, kids, pets, and home.  Material World, I have been wanting to get for a while but didn't really find anything to inspire me.   The Pocket Stylist..looks to be a good read, haven't made it too far yet.  Basically it helps you fit your clothing choices to your body shape.  Similar to Nina Garcias Black Book of Style, ( what to get and why) but with more emphasis on fitting your body type rather than general must have pieces. 

Just got a email from the library and all my picks for next week have already arrived.  See you next week.

Show and Tell

 
I Love, love the 70's print sheets, pillowcases, and clothing. They remind me of the 'Brady Bunch', hanging clothes on the line on a hot summer day, and the fabulous colors & patterns make me smile.  Yesterday, I came upon these wonderful dinner napkins.  Like 16 of them!   WAAAAAA!  I couldn't resist. 

Also, Mookie's newly finished wrap coat:

 
Made from double knit, this beauty is so versatile and warm.  She used Indygo Junction pattern number IJ838.  We bought the fabric and pattern last year at the Sew Expo and Mookie put it together for her Fashion Merchandising class project.  Good job Mookie!

Feeling Crafty

In addition to all the other things I have my hands into these days, I spent some time this week crafting some of my halloween goodies for the dining room display.  These were some of my inspiration photos:

Creepy candles

The creepy candles are made with strips of cheese cloth, torn and tired to the candle sticks.  I made two of these and plan to add some of the detail to my hanging light.  The vintage garland was made with vintage prints from Printmaster, printed on glossy photo paper.  I applied the photos to black cardstock pennants.  Glued on silver pipe cleaners around the photos and glittered the edges of the cardstock.  I punched holes in the corners to attach with black yarn, then attached the pre-tied bows.
